Secretary of State Hargett, Sen. Roberts, & Rep. Kumar Announce $6,500 in Technology Grants for Robertson Co. Public Libraries

September 19, 2024

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Secretary of State Tre Hargett, State Sen. Kerry Roberts, and State Rep. Sabi ‘Doc’ Kumar today announced Technology Grant funding totaling $6,500 for public libraries in Robertson County.

Specifically, the White House Public Library will receive $4,181 to cover the cost of desktops, a children’s workstation, and a tablet. Stokes Brown Public Library will also receive $2,319 for desktops.

“Libraries have always been centers for learning, and today, that means having access to advanced technology,” said Sen. Roberts. “These grants will help our libraries remain on the cutting edge, providing our citizens with the tools they need to succeed.”

Technology grants are administered by the Tennessee State Library & Archives, a division of the Secretary of State’s Office. These grants are funded through the Library Services Act (LSTA), as administered through the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Each grant is matched with local funds.

“When we support technological upgrades in our libraries, we are investing in our collective future,” said Rep. Kumar. “This initiative is about giving people the skills and resources needed to successfully navigate an increasingly digital world.”

This year, $373,869 in technology grants was awarded at 98 libraries across the state.  These grants are used to purchase or replace computers, software, networking software, and other electronic equipment for library staff and patrons.

“Thank you to Sen. Roberts and Rep. Kumar for their continued support of our local libraries,” said Secretary Hargett. “Technological upgrades at libraries address the unique needs of patrons in the communities these facilities serve. I appreciate Sen. Roberts’ and Rep. Kumar’s partnership, dedication, and advocacy on behalf of Tennessee’s libraries.”
