On behalf of President Obama and the American people, I congratulate the people of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe on the 41st anniversary of your independence on July 12.

We value your contributions to peace and security in the Gulf of Guinea, and support your efforts to promote stable economic growth, democracy and good governance, and sustainable development of energy resources.
