NDSU Women’s Basketball Edges New Mexico State in WNIT, 68-65

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's basketball team grinded out a 68-65 win over New Mexico State in the second round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) on Monday inside the Scheels Center at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex.

With the win, the Bison reached the 20-win mark the second straight season and improved to 20-11 overall. NDSU will advance to the WNIT Super 16 round and will host Washington State on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

Season ticket holders will have until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday to purchase their same seats. They can purchase their tickets through their GoBison.com account, by calling the ticket office at 701.231.6378 or in person at the ticket office located in the south lobby of Scheels Center. A $5 order charge will be applied to all renewals.

Fans can also purchase single game tickets at GoBison.com/tickets or at the ticket office on Tuesday starting at 8:00 a.m. Reserved and adult general admission tickets are $11 and youth general admission seats are $6.

Both teams battled throughout the first half as neither one led by more than four points in the first 20 minutes. After the Bison grabbed a 34-31 advantage at the intermission, NDSU slowly built its largest lead of the night, 48-39, following a pair of free throws from Avery Koenen with 3:29 to play in third quarter.

New Mexico State (18-16) fought its way back in fourth frame trimming the edge down to one, 66-65, after Fanta Gassama connected on a layup with six seconds to play. Abby Krzewinski answered for the Bison knocking down two clutch free throws with four seconds left to seal the 68-65 victory.

Koenen led the way for the Bison with a team-best 17 points and game-high 12 rebounds, while Krzewinski poured in 15 points with three rebounds. Abby Schulte also reached double figures in scoring with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.

As a team, NDSU shot 52.4 percent (22-42) from the field and 80.8 percent (21-26) from free throw line. The Bison also grabbed 31 rebounds in comparison to the Aggies' 20.
