Fierravanti-Wells says conservative base feels abandoned
By Lucy Sweeney
Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells' statement steps through a timeline of her concerns about the Liberal Party losing its conservative base.
"Following the Bennelong by-election [in December 2017], I made comments publicly about concerns that the party was moving too far to the left and that we were losing our conservative base.
"In January, we had further discussions where I openly expressed my views on a range of issues.
"Over the year, I have continued to expressed my concerns. The same-sex marriage debate eroded further the support of our base."
Senator Fierravanti-Wells said had suggested Peter Dutton be made deputy leader.
"Our conservative base strongly feel that their base has been eroded. They needed some demonstrable indication that there are conservative voices around your Cabinet table."

Kelly won't say whether he'd vote for Dutton again
By Lucy Sweeney
"It would depend the circumstances, it would depend on where we are on policy."I have no appetite for a leadership change whatsoever to see a leadership change."I just want to make sure when I walk out and I see the constituents in my electorate really struggling with the price of electricity, small business struggling to pay their electricity bills, pensioners unable to heat their homes in winter, I want to be able to look them in the eye and say 'I have fought as hard as I can and done everything I possibly can to get pressure of your electricity bill'."

Entsch explains why he gave Abbott a talking-to
By Lucy Sweeney
"When the former prime minister stood up and started quoting the Prime Minister and criticising him, I thought, well, the least I could do was also quote the former prime minister."I referred back to September 15, 2015: 'My pledge today was to make the change as easy as I can, there will be no wrecking no undermining and no sniping'. That was a comment that he [Mr Abbott] made then and I reminded him of that."Unfortunately it seems to me that it really doesn't matter, he is just so angry and obsessed with the fact that he lost that there's nothing the prime minister can do that will satisfy that obsession."
"Five minutes from an election, and when we're in the midst of dealing with a whole lot of issues, to turn the attention on yourself I think is profoundly disappointing.
"You don't change jockeys 100 metres before the finishing line.
"At the end of the day we should be talking about opportunities — jobs, the economy, energy — of course — and the environment."
