Democrats must be dreaming if they think the current crop of 2020 presidential candidates they’re floating will make President Trump a one-term wonder.
There’s John Kerry, the 2004 loser and former secretary of state who believes your refrigerator’s chemicals are more dangerous than ISIS.
On Kerry’s watch, North Korea advanced its nuclear program, the Islamic State established a caliphate, and when Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad committed genocide, Kerry invited Assad’s Russian pals to deal with that. He also orchestrated the disastrous Iran nuclear deal and stood by as Vladimir Putin did a land grab in Crimea. Windsurfing, however, he excels at. Let him keep doing that.
U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, the multimillionaire who masquerades as a socialist with her anti-Wall Street rhetoric, lost credibility with progressives when she failed to endorse a real socialist, Bernie Sanders, in 2016.
Instead Warren backed hedge fund honey Hillary Clinton — who took millions in campaign donations and speaking fees from Wall Street.
Now former President Barack Obama, another Warren bestie who tapped her to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, is raking in millions from Wall Street. Voters have learned that when Warren’s friends cash in with “evil” corporations and “greedy” banks, the so-called “Sheriff of Wall Street” looks the other way.
Former Vice President Joe Biden. Or should we call him Handsy Joe? When he isn’t kissing and laying hands on uncomfortable-looking women, Grandpa Joe has charisma to spare. But when it comes to his political legacy, as Obama’s veep, Biden is tethered to the worst economic recovery and foreign policy in memory, and helped add a whopping $9 trillion to the national debt.
Martin O’Malley, the failed Democratic contender from Maryland, said he wanted a “Climate Revolution” during the 2016 presidential debates. Most of us just want him to go away.
Newly minted, hard-left California U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris. Kamala who?
New Jersey U.S. Sen. Cory Booker and Massachusetts U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton — not quite ready for prime-time.
But liberals shouldn’t lose all hope.
The one potential Democratic candidate who could send Trump back to Mar-a-Lago is former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz. His rags-to-riches story is truly inspiring. Not to mention Schultz has a track record of creating 330,000 jobs, being socially conscious and an endearing reputation for treating his employees well with health benefits and other bennies.
A general election between Trump and Schultz would be the ultimate face-off between two billionaire business titans with vastly different coffee constituencies. The regular diner patrons — real working Americans who elected Trump — and the Starbucks crowd.
Let the best cup win.
